Old Sparta City Cemetery
   Sparta, White County, Tennessee

The cemetery is situated on a hill overlooking Sparta, one block south of Main Street.
There are a few steps at the North Entrance.

 

Just a few yards beyond the entrance is an iron fence enclosure, containing three graves.

The center stone bears the name and inscription:

JAMES T. QUARLES, DEC. 29, 1839 - FEB. 7, 1892.

William Hawes Quarles and Ruth Hyder Quarles were his parents.
He was the grandson of Wm. P. Quarles and Ann Hawes Quarles of White Plains, TN

     To the left of James T. Quarles' grave is the grave of

FREDDIE QUARLES
FEB. 14, 1883 - JAN. 26, 1884

infant son of James T. and Ella Quarles

"Of such is the Kingdom of Heaven"

     To the right of James T. Quarles' grave is the grave of

DAN H. QUARLES
1866 - 1904M/font>

Daniel Hawes Quarles was the eldest son of James T. Quarles' brother, Stephen Decatur Quarles
and his first wife, Zarilla M. Jones Quarles.
